How Does the New CLE Coupe Compare to the C-Class and E-Class?

Mercedes-Benz has entered the playing field with another grand-slam following the unveiling of the 2024 CLE Coupe earlier this month! This sporty new addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup is set to replace the two recently discontinued C-Class Coupe, and E-Class Coupe, come early 2024.

The CLE Coupe will be available in both Coupe and Cabriolet variations. The size of this newcomer is longer than the current C-Class models, and about the same, if not slightly longer, than the preceding E-Class Coupe. Although it may be longer than both the current C-Class and E-Class to give it its sporty silhouette, the width is the same as the current E-Class. For those looking for exact numbers, the CLE is 191 inches in length, and 73.2 inches in width, with a 112.8 inch wheelbase! According to Mercedes-Benz, the new coupe will have more cabin space than the prior C-Class Coupe. Rear passengers will have 2.2 inches of additional legroom, and the vehicle will have enough trunk space to hold three golf bags, in case you wanted to show off your sweet new ride when you play a few rounds at the Huntington Crescent Club!

The base level of this vehicle will be the CLE 300, which will include a turbocharged 2.0L I4 (inline- four), with 255 HP and 295 LB-Ft of torque through a 9-Speed Automatic. This is virtually the same engine that is found in the C 300 and E 350 Sedans that drivers all over Long Island know and love. 

The CLE 450 variant will include a M256 engine which is found in the E 450 Sedan. This gives the vehicle a 3.0L I6 (inline-six) engine that gives out 375 HP and 369 pound-feet of torque. 

Both vehicles have an integrated starter-generator for the 48 V electrical system that provides a 23 HP and 148 pound-feet of torque BOOST! 

Additionally, both the CLE 300, and CLE 450 will be four-wheel drive, so you know that this vehicle could be a daily driver for the New York winters!

The outside of the 2024 CLE Coupe will contain elements from both the C-Class, as well as the E-Class. It’s two-door design and long rocket-like shape gives it the sporty appearance that we all desire from a coupe, while the styling choices such as the modern LED headlights, smooth flowing lines, and chrome accenting lets onlookers know that this vehicle is classy and means business. 

Although the interior of this newcomer will be reminiscent of the current 2023 C-Class Sedan with it’s stunning 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and 11.9-inch central touchscreen, don’t worry! This wackeldackel dog has learned some new tricks. 

The CLE Coupe will be the second vehicle with the new electronic architecture and the third generation of the MBUX infotainment system. As you may have read about in one of our more recent blog posts, the Mercedes-Benz line-up is becoming increasingly more technologically intelligent with the newly announced addition of AI.

You can read more about that here, but in the CLE specifically, the AI will be used to learn which systems drivers may use at certain times, and will start to suggest them to the driver automatically. The system will take into account navigation, climate control settings, a phone number that may be dialed daily around a certain time, and even suggestions for a to-do list. Mercedes-Benz is calling this the “Magic Module”. This ties in to the new “Templates” that will be included in the coupe with options such as “Cold Day”, which will turn on the heated seats, and turn the ambient lighting a toasty orange color, and more! 

Going one step further, the driver also has the option to set “Self-Created Routines” which uses conditions to activate certain actions. Mercedes-Benz has given the example: “If the interior temperature is below twelve degrees Celsius, switch on the seat heating and set the ambient lighting to warm orange”.

Other new tech features include the upgraded sound system, and new display, and the ability to download apps such as TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, and Zoom. Burmester lovers do not be alarmed, this coupe will have the beloved Burmester 3D Surround Sound System, but will have Dolby Atmos built into the headrests for an extra luxurious listening experience. As for the display, the CLE Coupe has taken an approach to a more minimalistic look with the “app” icons receiving a redesign. Which display do you like better?
