The year is 2023 and now more than ever, we are seeing more and more self-driving, and electric vehicles jump into the US market. Not all are built the same though, as is shown with the brand new Mercedes-EQ lineup. Many electric vehicles come with their own form of “self-driving”. Mercedes-EQ has announced that it will be introducing its Level 3 autonomous driving for US customers by the second half of 2023 with their ‘Drive Pilot”. With over 30 different sensors, the Drive Pilot is able to control braking, steering, power supply, and more, by using a combination of the sensors, as well as LiDAR, ultrasound, moisture readers, and microphones. Now if you have read our previous blog post on this topic, you know that there are different levels of autonomous self-driving set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), depending on how much the support features may depend on human supervision. The graph below shows the different levels of self-driving, as well as their requirements to meet said levels. Now what makes the Mercedes-EQ EQS 450+, EQB 300 SUV, EQE 350+,  and EQS 580 SUV better than its competitors, is this level three certification. This surpasses other vehicles in the industry such as Tesla, who is still currently at Level 2 Automation. Unlike a Level 2 System, the Mercedes-EQ vehicles use a system where the user is not driving when automated driving features are engaged, while vehicle companies such as Tesla, Ford, and GM, require constant supervision from the driver as the vehicle steers and accelerates. Mercedes-Benz has been the first company to truly try to step forward and actually move to the highest level of autonomous driving yet, by introducing Level 3 automation to their vehicles. Gone are the days where we would ride in our father’s vintage SL, C 300, or ML 350, with our lays potato chips, munching away, while nodding our heads to our favorite tunes. An almost universal experience for many, included grooving along with WackelDackel, the automotive and cultural icon. Also known as the “nodding dog”, this companion was found in most cars during the 1970’s-1990’s. This year at CES 2023, the most influential tech event in the world,  Mercedes-Benz celebrated the launch of the newest character in the SuperPlastic world, SuperDackel! Superdackel is the reinvention of the aforementioned nodding dog. Superdackel was premiered in an animated short movie, along with some other Superplastic familiar faces. According to Bettina Fetzer, “the brand has reinvented and reinterpreted its brand and models for a modern, digital era - so why shouldn’t this iconic character receive an update, too?”. Superplastic is famous for being a global entertainment company intended to create and manage animated celebrities. Mercedes-Benz collaborating with Superplastic, is a melding two worlds that contribute to today's pop culture. Superdackel will be a great love project for the two companies! With all of the new vehicles, such as the Mercedes-EQ lineup including the Hyperscreen, the S-Class and even many of our other models, the Mercedes-Benz lineup has dashboards full of unique and interesting features that grab our attention. It’s no wonder the beloved dog figurine had become a relic of the past! With this new update, we are sure that this figurine will make it's way back into many Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the coming year! With the new updated look, Mercedes-Benz is paying homage to its designs of the past, while honoring the future, much as they do with their vehicle models as well! Being one of the leaders of the automotive industry, it comes as no surprise that the Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot has been the first automated car technology to be internationally certified at SAE Level 3! With safety and technology being the pillars upon which Mercedes-Benz has created their company, it only makes sense. It is no wonder that the German company is so loved all over Long Island, New York, and across the world. Since May of 2021, the Drive Pilot has been available for the S-Class and 2022 EQS lines from Mercedes-EQ. With the Mercedes-Benz 2022 EQB having just arrived at our dealership, we can just feel the future coming. What is Automated Driving? Automated driving is form of self-driving. An autonomous vehicle is a vehicle capable of sensing its environment and operating without human involvement. This means, when you are driving on the LIE, Northern State Parkway, or even Jericho Turnpike, your vehicle would take it's surroundings into account and act accordingly. This sure would help those who commute from Huntington to New York City! SAE International has stated different levels of driving automation ranging from SAE Level 0, to SAE Level 5. The SAE Level 3 Certification that Mercedes-Benz has received, states that the human in the driver seat is not driving when the automated features engage, and that when the feature requests, the human must drive! The automated technology controls features such as braking, steering, power supply, and more, by using radar, cameras, LiDAR, ultrasound, moisture sensors, and microphones. There are over 30 different sensors in total! Following the activation of DRIVE PILOT, the system controls speed and distance, while also keeping the vehicle in its own lane. What will this mean for the future of the automotive industry? More self-driving cars as the market attempts to gain an edge over one-another perhaps! In the meantime, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the brand has taken things one step further with the introduction on INTELLIGENT PARK PILOT for the future facilitation of fully automated driverless parking to SAE Level 4. From playground turf to raised flower beds, we know there has been no shortage of ways that the world has tried to make use of and/or recycle used car tires. Being no stranger to the sustainability conversation, Mercedes-Benz has come up with a new way to use this commonly thrown away item. In the past year, Mercedes-Benz has taken no small measure to try to reduce their carbon footprint. From the new Mercedes-EQ electric vehicle line-up including sedans and SUVs, to the various other on-going projects, the German company is always looking for new ways to become more ethical. In an effort to improve even more, Mercedes-Benz has been rethinking the composition of their materials. Ever the pioneers of the automotive industry, they have made it their goal to increase the share of recycled materials in its passenger car fleet to an average of 40 percent by 2030! This goal is what brought the use of tires to be. "Through close cooperation with our supplier network, we are replacing raw fossil resources with pyrolysis oil made in part from recycled tyres supplied by Mercedes-Benz. Components featuring this technology will enter series production in a number of our models as early as this year. We anticipate being able to chemically recycle several hundred tons of scrap tyres from Mercedes-Benz vehicles each year and to use the resulting plastic in our new vehicles. Together with our partners, we are closing the material cycle and actively driving the development of innovative recycling processes,” According to their website, they are working closely with their supplier in an effort to reuse the oil made from scrap tires by chemically recycling. This new plastic will apparently be certified in accordance with the mass balance approach, an independent certification that confirms that said supplier replaced the quantity of fossil resources from tire recycling. This will be the first time in history that pyrolysis oil from recycled tires will be combined with biomethane! Way to go, Mercedes-Benz and BASF! These new materials will match up to the Mercedes-Benz standard in safety and paintability. This is revolutionary for the automotive industry because these new parts will have the potential to replace a large number of vehicle components made from primary plastic. The Mercedes-EQ EQE and S-Class made in 2022 will be the first series-production models to include the new biomethane and pyrolysis materials that were created from the old tires. The S-Class will also include a crash absorber based on these materials. This huge step in material sourcing really goes to show that Mercedes-Benz is taking their Ambition 2039 mission seriously. This objective of Mercedes-Benz states that they intend to create a CO2-neutral new car fleet in less than 20 years. Every automotive company has been churning out electric versions of their most popular vehicles. Last year it was the 2022 EQS for Mercedes-Benz, an electric version of their flagship vehicle, the S-Class. Becoming an instant hit, Mercedes-Benz has furthered the Mercedes-EQ line with their all-new all-electric SUV: the EQS SUV 450+. This groundbreaking SUV is the first large luxury SUV from Mercedes-EQ that seats up to seven people. This Mercedes-Benz is expected to rival both the Tesla Model X and BMW iX with an estimated range of 373 miles. Similar to the 2022 EQS, the EQS SUV will have two trim levels: the 450+ with rear-wheel drive and the dual-motor EQS SUV 580 4MATIC. According to The Verge, "The 450+’s 265kW rear-axle motor will put out 265kW of energy, enabling 355 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. The 580 4MATIC configurations front and rear-axle motors put out a combined 400kWh, for 536 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque.". Not only that, but the EQS SUV will also feature the Hyperscreen. With MBUX, Navigation, Voice Recognition with " Hey-Mercedes! ", Apple Carplay, Android Auto and so much more, you will truly have the world at your fingertips. Taking style direction from both the 2022 EQS, EQE, and EQB, the EQS SUV mimics the grille, single-tail light setup, and wheelbase size of 126 inches. Being an SUV, this new EV differentiates itself from the EQS by size of course. The EQS SUV will be over 7.8 inches higher than the 2022 EQS sedan. Sitting at a whopping 202 inches long, 77 inches wide, and 68 inches tall, the EQS SUV is slightly slimmer and shorter than the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. This electric SUV is scheduled to go into production at the Mercedes-Benz plant in the next few months, making the EQS SUV available to Mercedes-Benz drivers in Huntington, Northport, Commack, Fort Salonga, and all over the world very soon! Any car enthusiast in Long Island, New York, and all over the world, has heard of the iconic name Mercedes-AMG. This year, AMG celebrates it's 55th anniversary with a special limited release of a special "55 Edition" of a few of their models including the AMG CLA 45, AMG G 63, and the AMG A 35 hatchback. Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled their brand new electric solar-powered concept car, the Vision EQXX. Said to be the most efficient Mercedes-Benz ever, there is a lot of hype surrounding the German company’s newest release. Through teases seen in three episodes on the Mercedes-Benz Youtube channel, Mercedes-Benz lovers all over the world watched as the future of the company’s EV plans were explained. The new Vision EQXX aims to achieve a driving range of more than 620 miles on a full charge. As Car and Driver states, “ While automakers revealing futuristic EV concepts tend to prioritize promises of performance over range, Mercedes-Benz is reversing that equation with the Vision EXX.”. This is shown to be true with the reported 201 Horsepower but 620 miles on a charge. This perspective really thrusts the auto-company even further into the sustainability conversation, following their recent release of the Mercedes-Benz 2022 EQS 450+ Sedan, their electric vehicle on par with the symbolic S-Class. If you have been reading anything about the EQXX you likely have heard of the 900-Volt Battery Pack that will be included. This special pack was created with the efforts of AMG's High Performance Powertrains division. They also develop Mercedes-Benz Petronas F1 Engines as well as the powerplant for the AMG One. If this battery is made by the same engineers that keep Lewis Hamilton going, we don't want to miss out on this! The battery operates at a whopping 900-volts and uses a compact design. This allows it to hold more energy while remaining a light weight for it's power. The exterior of the new solar-powered vehicle is both sporty and sleek, with design cues giving it a very low drag coefficient of 0.17. The vehicle will also feature 117 solar cells on the roof, built to offset the energy drain on the high-voltage system while also increasing the range. Mercedes-Benz has kept aerodynamics in mind with the shallow trunk angle and flowing design. The front face of the vehicle is also smaller than one seen on the compact CLA 250, and creates minimal resistance along with the shallow trunk angle. The interior of the EQXX is also something to brag about. Taking cues from the 2022 EQS yet still adding a breath of fresh air, Mercedes-Benz still keeps the environment in mind while moving towards the future. The Vision EQXX features a wide host of sustainable materials in the interior including mushrooms, bamboo, cactus, and vegan silk. Their aim in using these materials is to show that luxury does not have to mean you have to use animal products to achieve the feeling of comfort. Using these materials instead has halved their carbon footprint alone! Other than gorgeous new materials, the Vision EQXX nods to the EQS with the implementation of a massive 47.5-inch screen that goes across the full width of the new Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Unlike the Hyperscreen, which you can read more about on our 2022 EQS information page, the Vision EQXX is a one-piece display screen versus three. The Vision EQXX is still a concept-car but that doesn't make it any less of a display of the technology and design that Mercedes-Benz has planned for the future. The reinvention of the iconic Mercedes-AMG SL has been the talk of every driver on Long Island since it’s unveiling yesterday on the Mercedes-AMG Youtube Channel. Seen as a symbol of performance and luxury for ages, this new seventh-generation debut is shaking things up with some dramatic changes. Let’s start under the hood and the vehicle’s appearances. The new 2022 AMG SL will be offered in SL 55 and SL 63 variants, both with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, with an estimated 0-60 MPH time of 3.8 and 3.5 seconds for the SL 55 and 63 respectively. This all sounds great but the biggest surprise is that for the first time ever, the new SL 55 and 63 will include standard 4 MATIC+, the Mercedes-Benz and AMG name for all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and adaptive dampers, making the vehicle not only sporty, but also practical. The four-wheel steering allows for the sporty roadster to cut it’s turning radius by about two and a half feet, while the adaptive damping gives added stability. Additionally, an optional front-axle lift system can raise the front of the car by 1.2 inches. With an included software that allows the vehicle to remember location such as your steep driveway, the low exit coming out of the Shopping Centers on Jericho Turnpike, and more, the convertible can activate this function automatically. Now that we know the new SL 55 and 63 can pack a punch, let’s get to arguably the most important part, is the car aesthetically pleasing? In our books, yes. The redesigned SL-Class is one of the most beautiful releases we have seen from Mercedes-Benz and AMG these past few years. Can you blame us? The alluring red color in the release trailer was nothing if not eye-catching! With a shark-like design, this new release is aggressive and sporty looking. The car is 185.2 inches long and its wheelbase is 5 inches longer than its predecessor. With a smoother, rounder appearance, the wide Panamericana Front Grille Looks especially stunning. Perhaps more so with triangular LED headlights that perfectly contract the smooth, flowing lines of the overall design! This new release will also be available in many paint colors such as matte options, a bright teal “Hyper Blue”, and much more, making it truly customizable. Similar to the all new 2021 S-Class, shown in one of our newest Youtube videos featured on our channel, and available at our dealership, the body looks extra sleek with flush door handles. One bigger feature that many are excited about is the return of the soft-top on the SL 55 and SL 63. The top gives the vehicle a lighter weight by 46 pounds, making the vehicle more gas-efficient than before. According to the debut, the top is also said to be able to open and close in 15 seconds up to 37 MPH. With all of these new features, plus the 20 or 21 inch wheels, the SL-Class is sure to please the eye. This convertible Mercedes-Benz is a prize both inside and out. Part of the main joys of riding or driving in a Mercedes-Benz is how innovative and luxurious the interior of the vehicle is. What’s new about the 2022 SL 55 and SL 63 is that they both will feature a “2+2” seating arrangement, meaning that these beasts will be able to seat 4 comfortably. The cabin is now larger as well. Unlike most Mercedes-Benz vehicles near you at this time, the digital instrument cluster and large center touchscreen are separate entities, instead of spanning across one sizable piece of glass as people are most used to seeing with the MBUX System. Drivers will be able to adjust the center touchscreen’s angle to help reduce glare from 12 to 32 degrees when necessary. Isn’t that helpful? The turbine style air vents also add a nice touch in making the vehicle have a few standout points that define the interior as “hyper analog”. Using high quality and sustainably sourced materials throughout, you can tell this vehicle was made for the greats. As with many of the Mercedes-Benz vehicles being released as of late, the technology integrated within them is usually the first of its generation, as well as something that becomes a set point for other luxury car brands to seek inspiration from. To name a few, the vehicle will have standard Active Multicontour Massage Seats, Navigation, Heated Steering Wheel, a Surround View Camera System, Burmester Surround Sound Speakers, AIRSCARF Neck Heating Technology, “Hey Mercedes”, and of course, Ambient Lighting. Along with these standard features, other available options include Race Drive Mode, which uses AMG Track Pace, Heads-Up Display, Augmented Reality, and AMG Active Body Control Suspension System. With the also optional Driver Assistance Package comes Adaptive Cruise Control, Steering Assist, Active Lane-Keeping Assist, Cross-Traffic Sensing Emergency Braking, and a helpful automatic parking system, great for parallel parking whenever you may need it in New York City, shopping centers near the Walt Whitman Mall, and more! Other available packages include a Chrome Package, Night Package, and Carbon-Fiber Exterior Package or AMG Aerodynamics Package for the SL 63. For those wondering what they can do to help raise awareness, many turn to donating to any of the various amazing organizations that go directly to research, supporting patients, and more. Earlier this year, German automobile brand Mercedes-Benz revealed the 2022 EQS, an electric vehicle modeled after the iconic flagship vehicle, the S-Class. Earlier on Thursday, Mercedes-Benz took another step into the electric vehicle scene after causing a well received commotion against companies such as Tesla by teasing that they will be adding a new vehicle to the electric clan, the EQE! Details leaked about the EQE have revealed that this electric sedan will be a slightly smaller version of the 2022 EQS 450+ sedan that most Mercedes-Benz lovers in New York have become familiar with. Akin to its name, the sizing will be similar to the MotorTrend Car Of The Year, the E-Class.  A teaser shot of the EQE also shows that the dashboard will be similar to the OLED Hyperscreen design featured in the aforementioned 2022 EQS as well. Although they may be similar, photos have shown that the EQE’s rear haunches and front fenders are more pronounced. The sedan is also rumored to have a short rear deck with an integrated spoiler. As mentioned on Thursday, Mercedes-Benz will be revealing a plethora of new electric-vehicle debuts to the 2021 IAA, including the EQE, an electric AMG, and even a possible electric Mercedes-Maybach. Much more information has not been released, but drivers in Huntington, Northport, Elwood, Commack and surrounding areas are on the edge of their seat to know what else will be featured in the newly announced EQE.
