Mercedes-Benz of Huntington and the Competition Automotive Group are proud to sponsor the Alternatives for Children 23 rd Annual Classic & Sports Car Rally, happening on Saturday September 28, 2019!For those that are not aware of what Alternatives For Children is, Alternatives For Children is a non-profit private school that provides educational experiences that cater to each individual child’s learning abilities and needs. This organization is approved by the New York State Department of Health as an Early Intervention Program provider with Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as being a New York State Preschool Special Education provider. Alternatives for Children encourages success through focused assessment and the creation of individual learning plans. Teachers and clinical specialists work together with each child to reinforce positive outcomes. According to Dr. Marie Ficano, Executive Director of Alternatives for Children, the school has served over 20,000 children on Long Island in the 30 years it has been in existence. “Our programs have a great reputation. We are often the first choice for families and school districts,” Dr. Ficano said in the latest issue of the Competition Magazine. Fourth of July is right around the corner, which means lots of parades, barbecues, and of course FIREWORKS! Long Island drivers from all over Suffolk County, Nassau County, and the East End will be traveling the highways to celebrate this fun holiday, and hopefully in a new Mercedes-Benz or a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz! Wednesday, July 3 Connetquot River Fireworks Time: 9:15 p.m. Location: Connetquot River, Oakdale Start off Fourth of July weekend right by viewing a maginificent fireworks show on the Connetquot River on the South Shore of Suffolk County. This is definetly a show you do not want to miss, and Mercedes-Benz drivers in the Commack and East Northport areas can easily drive down to where the fireworks show is happening via the Sagtikos Parkway and Southern State Parkway. Many of the viewing locations are also some of Oakdale's finest dining locations, including the Snapper Inn and VIEW. There are also many scenic points to view the fireworks, such as Oakdale Yacht Club, Nicoll's Point Marina, Vanderbilt's Wharf, Great River Town Ramp, and Timber Point Marina. The G-Wagon we all know and love turns 40 this year, and it is safe to say that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has remained a legendary and fully capable SUV throughout all these years. Born in February of 1979 at the world premiere of the 460 model series G-model in Toulon, France, it was emphasized that the values of uncompromising off-road and on-road abilities as well as a maximum variety of use were priorities in this new vehicle. Since that debut in 1979, the G-Class has proven to remain true to the values that were promised at the premier, while also becoming an icon of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Back when the G was first introduced, it was designed as a military vehicle and therefore was more rugged and modest than we know today. There were many variations available for everyday consumers, such as a two-door, four-door, convertible roof, and more. Despite a more modest interior, there was a great attention to detail paid to the drive train of the early G-Class. The selectable standard-fit all-wheel drive with its one hundred per cent inter-axle differential lock and optional differential locks on the front and rear axles, which have been standard equipment since 1985, ensure optimum off-road handling characteristics.Over time more additions and variations were made to the G-Class. Standard-fit power steering came to the G in 1987, standard-fit differential locks in 1985, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) was added in 1990. The Super Bowl this year will officially be held in Atlanta, Georgia, and this is exciting news for Mercedes-Benz as it will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium! The excitement will begin on February 3, 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and for those who are not aware about this stadium, it truly is a reflection of the best or nothing vision of Mercedes-Benz. The stadium boasts 2,000,000 square feet and can seat a maximum of 75,000 people. The brand-new stadium also boasts over 600 concessions, 24 bars and restaurants, as well as over 1,000 beer taps for stadium visitors to choose from.    The outside of the stadium is also just as magnificent as what is offered inside. The stadium sits at an impressive height of 305 feet, or translated into 30 stories high. Right on the building, you can see the Mercedes-Benz star standing high and proud. What is most intriguing about the stadium is the open-air aspect to it. The stadium was constructed with a retractable roof and is only one of five NFL stadiums that is constructed as such. The retractable roof portion of the building was finally completed in July of 2018, just in time for the next Super Bowl!    Now we have yet another reason to be excited for the Super Bowl this year, and that is due to it being at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium! While usually our dealership, Mercedes-Benz of Huntington, is located in Huntington, New York, today for Halloween we are officially located in "Hauntington". For those that have not heard, today the town of Huntington is officially being renamed to Hauntington, thanks to 7-year-old Angelica Cunningham who wrote a letter to Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci back in August. As News 12 Long Island reports, Cunningham wrote to the town in late August with a special request – add an “A” to Huntington to make it “Hauntington” on Halloween, and got the idea from her "Monster High" doll named Ari Hauntington. She was encouraged by her parents to write a letter to Lupinacci and the town board, and they all agreed it was a fabulous idea! The town board agreed with Cunningham in an unanimous vote, and she was presented with a certificate of appreciation at her school by Chad Lupinacci himself. So many signs around the town of Huntington will be displaying the word "Hauntington" rather than Huntington.
