November is a beautiful time of the year where many of us jump-start our holiday plans, as well as reflect on things that we are thankful for. As we countdown the days to turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie, let’s help our community get to enjoy Thanksgiving with us! This November, Mercedes-Benz of Huntington is partnering with Long Island Cares to help give back to families in need this year. Long Island Cares is Long Island’s first food bank. Founded by Harry Chapin in 1980, their organization is dedicated to serving Long Island’s hungry and food insecure populations. According to their website, Long Island Cares has stated the following facts: “ 1 in 4 adults in Long Island faced food insecurity, 34% of food insecure people in Nassau County, and 41% of food insecure people in Suffolk County, are not eligible for nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP The elderly make up 4% of Long Island’s hungry. Seniors who are hungry experience depression and anxiety. They are also at increased risk for illness and disease. Food banks are by far the single most important source of food for agencies with emergency food providers, accounting for 69% of the food distributed by pantries, 39% of the food distributed by kitchens and 45% of the food distributed by shelters.          “ Over the course of last year, Long Island Cares has distributed over 14 million pounds of food, equating to 11.5 million meals. We are so proud to help out this amazing organization this year by having a food collection at our dealership located in the Huntington, Northport, and Commack area! This past week the Clark Gillies Foundation held their first annual Memorial Celebrity Golf Invitational, which led up to be their most successful event to date! We were so proud to have been able to give our support to an amazing organization by sponsoring two hole-in-one vehicles at both the Huntington Crescent Club and the Huntington Country Club. The Clark Gillies Foundation is a non-profit corporation that was created to help children who are physically, mentally, or financially challenged. The goal of this organization is to help children improve their quality of life, and to help their families during difficult times. Over the years, the foundation has granted over $3.5M for charities and causes to help children. As the organization's name suggests, NHL Islanders Hall of Famer Clark Gillies started this organization to raise awareness for pediatric cancer and other ailments. He has done so through various projects all over Long Island such as: The Clark Gillies Pediatric Unit at Huntington Hospital This facility located in the Huntington Hospital was funded to create a pediatric unit for children undergoing treatment that requires overnight stays in the hospital. The facility is also fully staffed with doctors and nurses trained specifically in pediatric care. This unit of the hospital provides a child-friendly environment that is fully equipped to reduce stress during an illness. Clark Gillies Arena (Dix Hills Ice Rink) In honor of the late NHL player Clark Gillies who passed away this January, the Dix Hills Ice Rink officially renamed themselves as the Clark Gillies Arena. As stated in an article found on the NY Islander's website, Town of Huntington Councilwoman Joan Cergol stated that they "named this rink in Clark's honor to serve as a constant reminder that Huntington is better because Clark Gillies was here". As Dix Hills is located in the heart of Long Island, they found it only fitting that the arena be named after him, because "Gillies was also part of the heart of Long Island". April is Autism Acceptance Month and Mercedes-Benz of Huntington is aiming to bring some awareness to this complex condition. What Is Autism? Autism, also called Autism Spectrum Condition, is a lifelong developmental disability. Autism currently does not have one single cause, but it does appear during early childhood. Recognizing autism early on gives the individual the best chance of getting the help and support that they need to live a fulfilling life. Autism can look different for every person. It is characterized by persistent differences in communication, interpersonal relationships, and social interaction across different environments, according to Autism-Society.org. Long Island Autism Community Involvement Part of the struggle that those with autism face is having a harder time with social interactions. One of our very own clients, Juliana Featherman, created an amazing app called Making Authentic Friendships. This app has created a community for those with special needs to find friends at home or on the go, based on their geolocation, diagnosis, age, and interests. The app prompts users to practice their social skills in a safe and friendly environment. Juliana’s main motivation behind the app came from the desire to see people like her brother Michael who was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, to live a more fulfilling life with meaningful friendships. As she says on her website, “Everyone deserves authentic friendships”. Be sure to check it out! Another Long Island Community that helps those with autism and other learning/ developmental disabilities is ACLD. ACLD is an organization in Deer Park, Long Island that aims to improve the quality of life for children, adolescents, and adults by giving them first-hand experience with life skills in a community setting. With residential and day habilitation, they have different styles of support for each individual based on their personal needs. We are so proud to be involved in such an amazing area such as Huntington, Northport, Greenlawn, Deer Park, Cold Spring Harbor, and other towns all over Long Island, that care so much about all of their residents. If you are a pet lover in Huntington, New York, then you know that National Love Your Pet Day is right around the corner. On Sunday, February 20th, people all over Long Island, and the rest of the country can celebrate their furry friends! If you have seen our any of our social medias, whether that be our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, or LinkedIn, then you may have seen how much love we like to show towards pets. On Instagram, our hashtag, #MBHuntingtonPups, is filled to the brim with adorable pictures of our client's pups in beautiful vehicles ranging from a C 300 Cabriolet, to a CLA 250, GLB 250 SUV, GT 63, and even a G-Wagon! Dogs sure do love lounging in the spacious GLS 450 with Third Row Seating, and feeling the breeze against the fur with the convertible top down in an E-Class Convertible while on the way to Coindre Hall Dog Park! We sure do hope these lovely dog moms and dads have taken advantage of the the All-Weather Mats available at our Parts Department! Not only do we show our love for pets on Instagram, but we even ran our very own Pet Contest last year! Participants sent in photos of their pets, for a chance to win an exclusive basket filled with so many pet accessories for their companion. Every single entry was adorable, making it so hard to choose a winner! The winners of First, Second, and Third place, along with all of the participants were then put into the cutest video, featured on our Youtube channel. The month of November is a favorite amongst many due to the warm feelings that are associated with the season. Gratitude, appreciation, mindfulness, and thankfulness all come to mind during this time, and we love to feel it! With Thanksgiving this week and the holidays right around the corner, now is the best time for local businesses and companies to show their gratitude. This year, the Huntington Patch is hosting a “30 Days of Gratitude” Series on their website, where they will publish stories and letters from local people about people and things that they appreciate, are grateful for, and believe add something special to their lives. We would like to contribute to the gratuity within our Huntington community by talking about a couple of things that we are grateful for here at Mercedes-Benz of Huntington. If you drove down Jericho Turnpike Sunday, September 12th, chances are that you saw a multitude of different cars out, ranging from a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, to an Austin Healy Bugeye, and even a Ford Shelby. Living on Long Island, seeing these cars isn’t a common sight, but our Cars & Coffee Event brought out all the coolest cars out that Long Island has to offer! Our Long Island Car Show was scheduled to start at 8AM Sunday morning, running until 11:00 AM, but we couldn’t believe our eyes when our lot was already full by 8:05. I guess we should have known things were gonna heat up when we counted almost 600 RSVPs by Saturday! Needless to say, we were thrilled. Given this event was scheduled on a Sunday morning, we thought it would only be right to have coffee and bagels, provided by Joel’s Bagels in Medford, a shop owned by our Pre-Owned Assistant Jefferson’s Father. We are so thrilled to have been able to support a local small business that is close to our #MBHuntingtonFamily ‘s heart! All of our attendees were able to enjoy them while walking through our Huntington Dealership’s large new lot, which opened in 2019. For some added fun, our dealership also decided to do a couple of giveaways to make the day extra sweet! First, we decided to give away an exclusive Mercedes-Benz watch, along with an AMG hat for the Best In Show Winner. For our other giveaway, we raffled off a special Autoboxx Car Care Package, provided to us courtesy of Chris Bove of AutoBoxx Inc! We are so thankful to have had Chris and his company be a part of our event! Other than coffee, bagels, muffins, and raffles, our Parts Departmen t also had a tent set up for anyone looking to buy any Mercedes-Benz Lifestyle Accessories, similar to what we sell in our Mercedes-Benz Boutique. Although we did give out complimentary t-shirts for all who came, so many people also got to get their hands on items of their own personal liking as well for friends and family. Both classic cars and sports/performance cars filled up the rows. Both categories had so many memorable vehicles which can be found in our Facebook album titled Cars & Coffee 2021, or even on our Instagram page, @mercedesbenzliny. All throughout the beginning of the event all the way to the end, our parking lot located across the street from the Stop and Shop in Huntington, was packed to the brim with new cars coming in and out, so much that we had to create two new rows! We are so thankful to everyone who came out and made our Cars and Coffee car show one of the best on Long Island yet! We are so excited to see everyone next year! What would probably be the worst Monday of the year due to the back-to-school season as well as the closure of summer, Labor Day has instead created a great weekend for families and friends all across the board to spend one last long weekend together before the hustle and bustle of life catches on. Luckily for residents of Long Island, there is no shortage of fun things to do in Nassau County, Suffolk County, and the North Fork during the long weekend to suit any type of group. Celebrating 179 Years of Long Island Agriculture, this fair is a great option for families with children due to the large amount of activities! Carnival at the Huntington YMCA The Huntington YMCA Labor Day Weekend Carnival is a great option located in Huntington Village. With Free Admission, you can easily take in the smell of funnel cake, and have a fun time soaking up the last bits of summer. Huntington Lighthouse Music Festival Sing, dance, and have a good time at the annual Huntington Lighthouse Music Fest. With a beautiful view of the harbor, the Music Fest brings together music fans, boaters, kayakers, paddleboarders, and history lovers, to enjoy themselves and raise funds to preserve the lighthouse. The Ronkonkoma Street Fair Residents of Ronkonkoma know that you can always find yourself having a good time at the Ronkonkoma Street Fair! This event showcases the community while raising funds for the town's chamber of commerce.
