It may seem like one of the most obvious questions in car-dom, but it’s one that needs to be asked: which is better: the Mercedes-Benz GLC or the Infiniti QX50? As it turns out, there’s more to this than meets the eye.
The GLC is a good-looking car, but it has a different character than some other Mercedes models. There are no outlandish proportions or overly aggressive curves here—just a pleasant mix of shapes, lines, and angles that make for an attractive package overall. Side mirrors look like those of an SL-Class (albeit with slightly less chrome trim), while its front end gets familiar “three-pointed” star styling cues on the hood’s creases and A-pillars. The rear deck is also quite handsome, thanks to its cleverly hidden exhaust pipes and integrated spoiler lip that helps reduce wind noise at speed.
Critics have widely praised the Infiniti QX50’s exterior design as being fresh and modern without being too flashy or eccentric. It’s somewhat reminiscent of Nissan’s latest Murano crossover SUV with its teardrop headlights and vertical taillights. However, the two vehicles’ silhouettes differ considerably when viewed from above (the Infiniti is taller than most SUVs). The front grille features bold chrome accents surrounding its central badge—similar to what one might see on certain BMWs or Audis—while chrome trim surrounds every window opening on both sides for an upscale touch. The rear end includes LED daytime running lights and LED taillights extending into “trunk lid” shaped taillight housings below each rear bumper corner, giving it a unique appearance amongst its competitors.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC and the 2022 Infiniti QX50 have similar interior features. Both cars include leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-view camera. The price difference between these two luxury SUVs is far less than their differences in exterior design or performance capabilities.
While the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC’s interior looks more like something you would find in a luxury sedan than an SUV (which we suspect was intentional), it still has all the necessary upgrades needed to make a comfortable ride great for passengers. The 2022 Infiniti QX50 takes on a more traditional look with its large console separating seats from the driver to the passenger compartment. Still, it provides room for four people and their luggage without sacrificing comfort or convenience features such as cup holders or power adjustment buttons on both sides of every seat.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC and 2022 Infiniti QX50 come with a wide range of active safety features, including adaptive cruise control.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers a Driver Assistance Package that includes Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and more. The 2022 Infiniti QX50 comes standard with Forward Emergency Braking as well as standard Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. If you want more advanced safety features such as automatic parking or collision mitigation braking systems on both cars, you’ll need to pay extra for them or upgrade to higher trim levels (such as the Premium Plus or Ultimate trims).
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC uses a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, with the front-wheel drive being standard and all-wheel drive optional. The 2022 Infiniti QX50 uses an available 2.0L I-4 Engine with 268 hp, which is also paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, but only comes in front-wheel drive form as standard equipment (all wheel drive is optional).
So, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is the winner here. It offers more features and better performance than the 2022 Infiniti QX50. While both vehicles have pros and cons, this one’s an easy call for us.
