The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC now introduces new things in its long list of offerings. It may have discontinued its plug-in hybrid model, but now it offers hands-free park assist to its drivers. There are also various engine choices, depending on the trim that you order.
For the 2021 Volvo XC40, the ride graciously offers a spacious interior. This luxury subcompact SUV does not really impress in terms of technology, though.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC opens up to 49.4 cubic feet of cargo space when rear seats are not in use. It is available in two body style configurations, namely the coupe and SUV. Both variations offer five comfortable seats for passengers of all shapes, sizes, and ages. There is adequate room to move around for occupants. Standard offerings along this aspect are the leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and synthetic leather upholstery. All in all, the GLC is named as one of those cars with the nicest interiors.
The 2021 Volvo XC40, meanwhile, can only expand its cargo area up to 47.2 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. This is considered the smallest crossover from the brand as it can only seat up to five people. Outward visibility may be good in its spacious seating configuration but design wise, it does not impress the way the GLC does.
The 2021 GLC, is now equipped with the latest infotainment system from the brand, the MBUX. This uses a a 10.2-inch touch screen which is praised for its crisp graphics display and quick response to inputs. Other features include the panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, *Bluetooth®, and two USB ports. It also has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Safety aids included in the ride are front and rear parking sensors, driver drowsiness monitoring, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, hands-free park assist, and the rearview camera.
The XC40, on the other hand, tries hard to become modern in terms of technologies. The infotainment system comes with a tablet-style touch screen which is considered its best part. The perplexing menu layout and distracting touch screen compromises the overall look of the setup. Compared to the GLC, it is slower to respond to inputs from the user. Safety features present in the ride are forward collision warning, lane departure warning, oncoming collision mitigation, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist.
The GLC starts with a base turbo-four engine that can aspirate up to 255 horsepower. There is one equipped with the twin-turbo V6, thus yielding 385 horsepower. The last engine version is a twin-turbo V8 that can release up to 469 horsepower.
In the case of the Volvo XC40, there are two turbo-four variations. One of these engines serves 187 horsepower while the other gives off 248 horsepower. These does not even meet the base turbo-four results for the GLC.
Handsome to look at inside, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC easily defeats the 2021 Volvo XC40 in all of the aspects that have been compared. This makes the GLC a better choice of a ride over its Volvo counterpart.
