The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is extravagant, well equipped and spacious, a true hallmark of German engineering. But how does it compare to the 2021 GMC Acadia, a handsome SUV with turbo power, the ability to seat seven and outstanding infotainment?
The GMC Acadia is a moderately sized crossover that comes with 3 different engine choices and all or front wheel drive. It is well tuned and attractive from every angle, with a chiseled frame that will appeal to many buyers. It has a rectangular front end with a large grille and within the cabin passengers can install Denali level trim that is fully blacked out. The quilted leather seats feel good on the skin and the wooden and metallic surfaces are easy on the eyes.
The latest Mercedes-Benz GLA has bigger proportions than previous generations, with an elevated riding height and widened stance. It features an aviator based theme with turbo vents within the cabin and a mesh grille outside. It comes with twenty inch wheels with LED lights that have been standardized. The cabin is covered in leather and aluminum surfaces that look and feel wonderful.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA is packed with the best safety measures that money can buy. These include driver assistance, emergency automated brakes, blind area monitoring, lane and cruise control and automatic notifications regarding cross traffic in the rear. Luxuries within the cabin are extensive and include a camera with surround view, seven inch displays, powered seats that can be adjusted eight ways, voice recognition, climate control and the choice of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Despite receiving a good rating from the NHTSA, the GMC Acadia does not provide emergency automatic brakes in its base models, which is a serious failure on their part. It does have cruise control which is adaptive, lane control, and a rear based camera mirror. Luxuries within its cabin include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, eight inch displays, keyless start, climate control and powered seats that can be adjusted four ways.
The GMC Acadia is outfitted with an inline 4, 2.5 liter engine that can generate 193 horsepower with 188 pounds of torque, which is wedded to an automatic nine speed transmission. The Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 221 horsepower, which enables it to accelerate from zero to sixty in just 6.6 seconds.
While the GMC Acadia is a decent SUV, the failure to include emergency automated brakes combined with its poor cargo area makes the Mercedes-Benz GLA the winner.
