The remodeled 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS ranks one amongst the top luxury large SUV class. It excels in terms of performance but the only thing holding it back to get on the top is its complicated infotainment system controls.
The 2020 Volvo XC90 has an endearing and spacious interior equipped with standard safety features and backed by a good fuel economy. Despite all of that it ranks in the middle of the list of luxury midsize SUV class cars because of its low-reliability rating and just-adequate powertrains.
The much-awaited upgraded version of GLS has introduced heating, massaging and ventilated seat features in the second and third-row seats and heated steering wheel. The heated and power-adjustable front seats are kept standard along with the synthetic leather upholstery. All in all, the XC90 has become more lavish, elegant and excellent.
The 2020 Volvo XC90 sports has got one of the nicest interiors in its class. The minimalist yet elegant interiors with leather covers, soft-touch plastic and matte-finish wood accents are pleasing. The XC90 has seven seats with sufficient head and legroom in the first and second rows but the third row lacks space.
The standard Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system features a 12.3-inch touch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, nine USB ports, and wireless device charging along with other optional features. The driver assistance features are kept as it is which include a surround-view parking camera system, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitoring, automatic park assist, etc.
On the other hand, XC90 is equipped with Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system with advanced features like a 9-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a 10-speaker stereo, and two USB ports. It’s a good system, but not the best in this segment.
Mercedes-Benz comes with two options of engine. The first option is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder that makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque is standard. The second option is 4.0-liter turbo V8 that produces 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
The 2020 Volvo XC90 is available with three engine options; however, these are nowhere close to the performance of GLS engines. The entry-level T5 engine setup in XC90 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower. One drawback here is the coarse sounds the engine makes under hard acceleration with poor passing power.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a practical choice for a luxury large SUV. It excels in terms of power, performance and features when compared to others in the segment. The muscular engines, composed handling, serene ride and great fuel economy are the pluses.
