The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA may be a compact luxury SUV but its set of characteristics is full-blown. Thanks to its decent economy and bigger back seat, a premium driving experience is a guarantee. Anyone will enjoy all of its luxurious appointments and minor refreshments for this model year.
Another car that has excellent features is the 2020 Lincoln MKC. There are plenty of desirable extras for this year but it basically remained untouched. This means that it still has pretty much the same personality it got from its predecessors. Let us check if this would help or make it a poor second to the GLA.
If not for its compact size, anyone would be intimidated with the business-like stance of the GLA. It has blunt proportions, instead of the usual Mercedes styling of a curvy car. What makes it still unmistakably gorgeous is the prominent badge on its grille. The LED lights for both the front and rear added to the muscular appeal. It also has big 18 or 19-inch wheels which helped develop a confident stance.
The previous MKC lacked the wow factor to impress. Thankfully, it has a new grille and front-end styling for this year which made it look as refined as the Navigator. Its exterior is chrome-heavy and has lightly reshaped LED headlights. But apart from all the chrome, everything else is old and simple. It is not ugly but it certainly is not desirable too.
The GLA is more than sufficient with in-car tech, even at the base model. The audio and navigation are voice-controlled and will work flawlessly well with the optional Harman Kardon upgrade. You may also choose the set of driver aids that you need through different option bundles.
You may not know it but Lincoln is actually particular with their infotainment and they got it right with the MKC. It may not be as sophisticated as what the GLA has but t is relatively quick and easy to use. Just a word of advice, though, the optional 14-speaker audio set up is not that great so stick with the standard one.
The GLA has a straight-line performance that is coupled with a sharp handling. Its powerful drive is attributed to the strong 2.0-liter engine for a 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It is nicely-weighted too so you can expect the same smooth and steady driving feels in both the city streets and mountain roads.
There are four trim levels for the MKC but they all have the same 2.0- liter engine with 245 hp and 275lb-ft of torque. It will be no trouble taking it around town but many people find the brake system to be odd and overly soft.
Both the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA and the 2020 Lincoln MKC are impressive in performance as well as its in-car tech. The GLA, however, is more attractive and handled the minor refreshes so well. The MKC did great on its design changes but it still lacks the luxurious appeal that the GLA has earned.
