The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with an athletic build, easy to control the infotainment system, and to consumer’s surprise, it’s also equipped with all-weather, rough terrain capabilities. However, it has a moderate acceleration when initially as a stop, and the cabin is constituted of average materials. You won’t find an overall score because it’s not fully crash-tested yet.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 promises fuel efficiency, plush seating, and a convenient ride. What XT5 lacks in, is its uninspiring cabin composition and unimpressive performance. That places it in the bottom half of our luxury mid-size ranking.
XT5 is a double rowed five-seater with ample leg space and comfortable seating. Though, it has very limited headroom for taller passengers. Poor visibility in all directions is another of its drawback. The XT5’s cabin composition is appealing but not in the class of luxury standards. Its panels are not suitably designed to quell the wind noise and may rattle at higher-pace. The swept-back headlights and its vertical LED design are quite nice looking. However, to sum it, XT5 has a relatively bland design compared to other Cadillac models.
GLA has seating for a maximum of five occupants, but it has ample space for front-seat passengers, even for taller folks. Moreover, the Benz is equipped with 14-way power-adjustable front seats with memory settings to accommodate driver in the most comfortable position. However, backseat doesn’t offer the same room for your legs or head. Panoramic moonroof can further limit the headroom if you choose that option. Mercedes GLA has several touches of luxury, but overall can’t be placed with other high-ranking luxury vehicle list.
In terms of technology, XTS boasts of an array of features in its CUE infotainment system like voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hot spot, USB ports, 8-speaker Bose premium stereo r, etc. with options to add extra speakers, wireless device charging, and navigation. But it does fall behind its competitors in terms of the screen size and the system-speed. Also, the glare from bright sunlight can render the screen hard to see. Its safety features consist of automatic emergency brakes, a rearview camera, lane keep assist, a following distance indicator, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, front pedestrian brakes, and park assist for both front and rear.
Mercedes GLA is provided with a user-friendly COMAND® infotainment system that’s operated with a rotary controller located on the center console. Its audio-navigation system is pretty exceptional even in its base models. With GLA, you don’t need to buy additional tech bundles to get the luxury feel. It has a range of advanced features like Android auto, HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, Bluetooth®, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. It is packed with some important safety features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, surround-view parking camera system, lane keep assist, automatic parking assist, etc.
Examining GLA, we find an optimized engine 2.0-liter engine for a 258 lb-ft and a 208 hp. The engine enables the car to maintain a smooth ride even in rugged terrain. It is also capable of a powerful performance, with the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds.
Cadillac comes with a new 237-horsepower four-cylinder base engine, replacing the previous standard V6, 310 horsepower engine, thus sacrificing a good deal of horsepower.
GLA’s being a highly reliable car, with a plethora of standard features at such a low base price makes it a solid value proposition in the category of mid-sized luxury SUVs. Cadillac XT5, even with its strong engine fall a little behind on the tech and design front.
