2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. 2020 Buick LaCrosse

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class may be a veteran but it remains as charming as its last redesign four years ago. Other cars can look outdated even after a year but the C-Class is able to achieve semi-perfection design-wise. Its classy appeal is packed with the latest in-car tech which is why it never falls behind from any of its competition.

Now, when looking for a traditional sedan, it is impossible not to take notice of the 2020 Buick LaCrosse. It is an epitome of old-school luxury with its big sedan fundamental still intact even through the recent updates. Let us see which sedan can keep the audience captivated with this comparison.

Design & Style

The C-Class has kept the old silhouette of its predecessor but is graced with modern-looking LED headlights and taillights. The variety of updates are more evident on its cabin where there is a waterfall-style panel of controls, circular air vents, and a range of posh trims, such as open-pore walnut and carbon fiber.

The LaCrosse stands out with its unmistakable curves. The large grille is flanked by sweeping headlights and is added with a curvy hood to soften the aggressive appeal. What made the exterior design a letdown are the portholes on the front quarter panels that look distracting.

Technology & Safety

Seamless smart phone integration is what most people would look for in a new car. Well you can have that on the C-Class but the standard COMAND® system is more than enough. All the controls work flawlessly well with the well-calibrated driver aids.

Most luxury vehicles are somehow well-equipped with the latest in-car tech even for the base models. The LaCrosse, however, has most of its advanced features as expensive options. This makes its standard infotainment far from exceptional. Suffice to say that it is outclassed by its competition.

Performance

The C-Class has plenty of power from the 255 hp base engine. Its acceleration feels strong and the handling is excellent.

The LaCrosse has a 2.5-liter engine that is assisted by a small electric motor for a total power output of 194 hp. Although the shifting is smooth and the steering feels centered, it is pretty obvious that the mild hybrid engine is taxed out and sounds strained even on a moderate driving performance.

The Bottom Line

If not for the portholes on its exterior, the 2020 Buick LaCrosse can carry itself well even through the gorgeous appeal of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It can also be better if there are, at least, a few modern technology additions for its standard in-car tech. Although mild-hybrid powered cars are supposed to be stronger, the C-Class showed otherwise as it offers a far stronger performance than the LaCrosse.
