The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a full-size luxury SUV that offers an ample three rows of seating and enough space to comfortably seat up to seven persons. It is one of the top contenders for the top spot among large luxury SUVs and it is easy to believe that it can take down its rivals, fair and square.
Like the new GLS, the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is also a highly-capable luxury SUV. It boasts of exceptional performance both on and off road. The classic Land Rover Range Rover has a stately, dignified look. The Rover Sport, on the other hand, still looks as subdued but with the addition of daring features.
It is difficult to imagine a Mercedes-Benz without thinking of the sexy silhouettes that most cars by this brand are gifted with. The GLS is a polar opposite, style-wise, as it is big, bulky, and really muscular. But even with massive size, the brand was able to inject the same level of sophistication, especially in the cabin. The interior is as premium as any Mercedes-Benz. The subtle mix of leather, wood, and metal details contribute to having a lush interior that is very impressive.
The Rover Sport is not the biggest SUV from Land Rover. Its size, however, is one of its strengths as it greatly complements the current styling cues. The lower stance added to the sporty vibe that it wants to evoke. It has clean lines and a floating roof that looks intriguing.
The GLS has an infotainment system that runs with the new COMAND® system. There are plenty of optional features to make each ride as fun and as entertaining as it can be. The 7-inch central display is standard but it can be upgraded for an 8-inch touchscreen device. With a car its size, active safety features are a must. The GLS may have a blind-spot monitoring and a lane-keeping assist that are useful along with its automated parallel parking system.
The infotainment system of the Rover Sport is sharp and looks futuristic but it does tend to slow down and get a bit complicated. This can be an issue since it can pose a problem when used while on the go.
The base engine of the GLS is a turbocharged V6 for up to 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. While this power is enough to take the GLS and its haul anywhere, the AMG® GLS 63 has an ultra-powerful V8 engine for a massive 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque.
The Rover Sport has six trim levels with the base model running on a V6 engine for up to 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a robust full-size luxury SUV. While the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a capable vehicle, the GLS is much better as it has a stronger engine that really took its role as a luxury vehicle with its premium cabin fixtures.
