The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC is far from the prim and proper crossover models that the luxury brand has. It may not be poised and formal but it still looks great. The most fascinating thing about it is that it can comfortably go off the road. This makes it a practical choice if you like the idea of having an off-road adventure every once in a while.
One of the top picks for luxury SUVs is the 2019 Acura MDX. The current generation is very much alike with the 2014 model year. Although it is significantly old in essence, there are updates through the years that still made the latest model relevant.
The GLC still has a sexy silhouette with its creases and curves. The prominent Mercedes-Benz star on the grille is attractive and will serve as a reminder that you are driving a one-of-a-kind vehicle. There are also bigger LED taillights this year. A dramatic styling is applied for the cabin where wood and metallic trims are ingeniously applied.
The MDX needs a major overhaul. Even though the current design has attractive curves and lines, it is already three years old. An update would mean a fresher look and it would be exciting to see how the brand will reinvent the MDX.
The GLC is well equipped with technology. The standard infotainment system consists of an 8.4-inch touchscreen display and a high-quality audio system. It is basically all that you need for an entertaining road trip. The driver aids of the GLC are well-applauded, most especially the adaptive cruise control.
The MDX has a very high-tech looking dual-screen infotainment setup. It is sad that the UI is not intuitive and you can get confused finding which screen has the apps that you need. As for its driver aids, it has a few advanced safety features but they are not too reliable. Adaptive cruise control is not predictable and is notorious for accelerating or braking suddenly.
The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine of the base engine is already great with its 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. It brings about an easy and confidence-inspiring drive. The steering is responsive and effort is consistently linear.
The MDX has a V6 engine but it can only get up to 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. One would expect more especially that the engine is a hefty 3.5-liter.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC clearly wins against the 2019 Acura MDX. The GLC is a balance of performance and comfort while the MDX lacks the luxurious amenities to maintain a relaxed ride. The GLC also has a better infotainment system that the MDX cannot rival even against the basic features.
