Benz E-Class

2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

VS
2019-Volvo-S90

2019 Volvo S90

2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class vs. 2019 Volvo S90

As if the last E-Class is not impressive enough, Mercedes-Benz still found a way to have a worthy upgrade for this year. The fully reworked version had been introduced last year and the additional features for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class had many people salivating.

Another vehicle that gets whistles as it drives by is the 2019 Volvo S90. The company boasts its heritage on the S90 and it is only best to compare it with a commendable opponent like the new E-Class.

Design & Style

Both cars are designed with sophistication in mind. The E-Class has a pillar-less design that is exclusive to its line. The dramatic roofline drapes smoothly towards the trunk lids. There is also an addition of power bulges on the hood that is reminiscent of the brand’s 1950s race cars. The standard synthetic leather on the base trim’s interior is very convincing at giving the cabin a luxurious feel. It can be upgraded for the real one which is designed with contrast stitching details.

The S90 has an authentic Scandinavian styling. While the exterior has a well-rounded design, it gets more exciting on its interior. The cabin design and materials are superb and looks first-rate. It is important to take note that the styling also took points off its layout. The large rear pillars plus the sloping roofline made way for blind spots and they significantly reduce the headroom.

Technology & Safety

The technology and safety features of both cars are on the same boat. They both have the latest tech features that are unique to their brands. The E-Class has the COMAND® while the S90 got the Sensus for the onboard navigation systems. These navi systems are great and are both easy to use. As for safety, both cars have almost the same driver aids that are all advanced compared to other vehicles in the same class.

Performance

For the 2.0-liter engine of the E-Class base trim, it can have as much as 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. More power is generated on the higher trims and topping it is the AMG® E 63 S. It can deliver up to 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque with its 4.0-liter V8 engine.

For its base trim, the S90 has a 2.o-liter engine for up to 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid T8 trim can only reach a combined hp of 400 and 472 lb-ft of torque.

The Bottom Line

Seeing that both cars have strong characteristics in styling and technology features, this comparison boiled down to their driving performances. When comparing the two engines, it is safe to say that that prowess of the V8 engine in the E-Class is unbeatable neat even with the S90’s highest trim.
