The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC Earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award
The Mercedes-Benz brand has been setting the bar for safety features, technology, and testing since the mid-1900s. They don’t just believe in making beautiful models; they want to make sure their lineup includes safe cars, SUVs, and crossovers that look great and keep you and your passengers secure by avoiding accidents all together or protecting you in the case of one with solid engineering. That’s why here at Mercedes-Benz of Huntington we’re excited- though not shocked- that another 2018 model has earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award!
Bringing home a win this year is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC in the midsize luxury SUV category.
When a vehicle goes to the IIHS testing center it’s put through six stringent trials on crash worthiness:
- Small overlap front: driver-side
- Small overlap front: passenger-size (new for 2018)
- Moderate overlap front
- Roof strength
- Head restraints & seats
From best to worst, tests in this category are scored as such: Good, Acceptable, Marginal, and Poor.
In the crash avoidance and mitigation section, equipped vehicles are tested on their Front crash prevention technology. The tech earns a score of either Advanced or Superior. Also reviewed are headlights and they earn the Good through Poor rating. The Mercedes-Benz GLC scored top ‘Good’ ratings on all the crash worthiness tests. For Crash Avoidance and Mitigation the Front crash prevention technology earned ‘Superior’ marks and the trim that has LED lights earned ‘Good’.
In case you were wondering what is standard for crash avoidance technology on the SUV, we’re proud to say that it has Collision Prevention Assist Plus and ATTENTION ASSIST®™. If an accident does occur, the standard PRESAFE® tightens the seatbelt, closes the windows, and does whatever it can to best protect the occupants!
